ABOUT ME

I am a Scottish glass artist working from my studio in Edinburgh where I make unique, bespoke glass vessels and wall hangings. I’ve always been fascinated by glass and its unique properties , how it can be the ultimate shape changer, morphing from one state to another and back again.

Much of my work, particularly my vessels,  is inspired by the patterns and colours that occur naturally in the Scottish landscape;  my love of the coast and the sea is a particular influence.  The qualities of the glass itself also constantly fascinate me, its transparency and  opacity, and how, as an artist, I can create layers of pattern, depth and texture. Using these properties and a formula of heat, gravity and time I can control the flow of molten glass in the kiln, manipulating line, colour and form to make vessels that reflect the relationship between land, sea and sky.

In my wall hangings, I repurpose antique printers trays sourced here in the UK and in France, filling them with  glass tiles to create an overall picture. I enjoy making personalised trays where each tile is designed with the final owner in mind and the resulting made to order pieces are highly individual, colourful and distinctive.  A life in glass!
